Back from 4 days at the bi-annual Music Education New Zealand Aotearoa conference held at the wonderful College of Creative Arts at Massey Wellington.
I presented a workshop “What is DJing?…Really…” and also performed one evening. (The recorded mix will be up on my mixcloud - via my website - soon).
It was great to catchup with old colleagues, and meet new music teachers, and organisations working to support music education in NZ.

Now to apply the ideas, to writing and supporting the curriculum in NZ.

20 years ago I attended my first SocCon (Social Sciences Conference) as a 1st year teacher at Kerikeri High School.
This week I attended my 2nd, as an employee of the NZ Ministry of Education where I’m working on the national curriculum refresh and resourcing of it for teachers. A great three days reconnecting with the social sciences, networking and seeing old colleagues and friends from the past. Oh yeah, and I’m a Dr now too 📕

Doing my DJ Tunesifter on the Dub style set, mixing up solid Dancehall, reggae, soul and Head on down early to hear the local support, before JStar. We’ll be crammed into East Street, so get your presales as this will sell out. If you’re from out of town, why not make a trip to Nelson for the weekend!

25 years ago, I’d drink coffee from one of the ubiquitous Fuel hole-in-the-wall spots around Wellington. They were everywhere, including in the airport halfway down the departure gate walk with covers of jazz records on the walls and great jazz playing. They all seemed to have disappeared over the years, replaced by other coffee brands or some other store. However, when I was up this week for monthly office days, I walked past a new Fuel coffee spot on the Terrace, in the same position as all those years ago. Still tasted amazing, and using my 15-year-old original KeepCup.
